In this class participants will gain a framework for defining and exploring what is meant by ‘culture’, and how cultural differences impact our communication and relationships. Participants will work to gain increased understanding of their own cultural identities, internalized ideas and norms. The Developmental Model of Intercultural Sensitivity (originally proposed by Milton Bennett) will serve as a framework for examining a process toward increasing awareness about cultural differences and increasing effectiveness in communication across difference.
