Psychiatry is still unclear about where mental illness comes from, however some important clues emerge from the literature on attachment. Since at least half of all mental illnesses show up by the age of fifteen, the experience of the child and their developing brain is an area of intense focus in psychology. This class exposes the learner to how attachment has been studied and the current conclusions about how an infant’s experience of attachment affects their neurodevelopment risk for mental health problems as an adolescent and adult.
