In 2019, Crain’s Chicago Business recognized Mix as one of the top 84 Notable LGBTQ Executives in Illinois for her advocacy work in health care to fight homelessness and poverty.
She is excited to continue this work in the mental health care space, supporting families and communities throughout Minnesota.
Veronika Mix: My Road to Success as a Black LGBTQ+ Executive
As someone who grew up in Chicago with a 15-year career in health care, I’ve spent my life donating time and money to fight poverty and homelessness while promoting inclusion and workplace equality.
In Georgia, from 2015 to 2018, I developed a mobile food delivery program that utilized a food truck to travel across Illinois to underserved communities in need of fresh fruits and vegetables. As a result, over 25,000 families from different cultures who lived in food deserts received fresh produce.
In addition to that, I’m proud of the work I did from 2018 to 2020 in partnership with organizations in Chicago to support more than 1,500 individuals experiencing homelessness. Not only did we listen to their needs, but we delivered care packages and food.
I also helped one health care organization participate in their first Chicago Pride Parade!
