St. Paul police crisis responses improve with social workers’ help

Amber Ruth, our licensed social worker within the St. Paul Police Department’s Mental Health Unit and Sergeant Jamie Sipes, explain to the Star Tribune how officers are better equipped to respond to crisis situations through this collaboration. Mental health-related calls to the St. Paul Police have doubled in the last 12 years. Our partnership with the unit hopes to decrease these instances by empowering officers to respond immediately with expert help, connecting individuals to the appropriate medical care and resources.
