The People Incorporated Artability program involves a summer-long series of art workshops, culminating in a three-day show in October as a means of celebrating the creativity of people with mental illness and the contributions they make to society.
In 2007, over 500 people attended the art show, which featured the paintings, sculptures, and other creations of 89 artists—some 350 works of art and writing. Artists may sell their work at the show and receive 90% of the profits, with the remaining 10% going back to support the Artability program.
The program was supported in 2007 through grants from the Boss Foundation, the Alex Galle Artability Endowment, and the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council.
Artability 2008
The next art show will be held on October 2-4 at the People Incorporated APOLLO Resource Center, located at 313 N. Dale Street, St. Paul. The show is free and open to the public.
Who can participate?
Artabiltiy workshops and art exhibit are open to any adult (18+) with mental illness in the region. You can join the Artability mailing list by sending an e-mail to the Artability Coordinator. Please note that the coordinator is employed during the months of April through October.
