Home for the Holidays Event Raises $52,000

People Incorporated’s “Home for the Holidays” event raised $52,000 to help purchase furniture for People Incorporated programs. Held at the St. Paul Hotel on Dec. 19, 2007, the event included a dinner and holiday entertainment in the form of a live radio play, “It’s a Wonderful Life.” Over 130 attended the event, which was chaired by Sandy Klas and Margee Klas Johnson, and sponsored by Sandy and Bob Klas, Sr., Linda and Bob Klas, Jr., Phil and Margee Klas Johnson, and Dick and Nancy Nicholson. The funds raised will be used to purchase much-needed beds, dressers, sofas, rugs, and other furnishings for up to 10 People Incorporated programs. Thanks to all of our sponsors and donors, including HOM Furniture, who gave a 25% discount on purchases.

Artability 2007

People Incorporated’s Artability art show event, held on October 4-6, 2007, netted over $8800 in art sales, topping even last year’s amazing record. The show, now in its 13th year, highlights the talents and contributions of people with mental illness. Artists receive 90% of the sales, with 10% going back to support the program. This year over 500 people attended the show to see the paintings, sculptures, and other creations of over 89 artists—some 350 works of art and writing entries.

The opening celebration featured Joe Spencer, St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman’s Policy Associate for Arts and Culture, who presented the mayor’s proclamation declaring the first week of October as “Artability at APOLLO” week. Awards were presented by KARE 11 News Reporter Rena Sarigianopoulos, and Artability Coordinator Sarah Beggs. Artist and committee volunteer Bart Galle presented the Alex Galle Artability Award to Vue Vang, and also selected artwork to display at Studio 10 gallery at Har Mar Mall during the month of October.

The Artability program, which includes a summer-long series of art workshops, was funded this year through grants from the Boss Foundation, the Alex Galle Artability Endowment, and the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council. Margaret Humphreys donated awards for the artists.
