Entertainer Jennifer Holliday wowed a record crowd of over 300 at our Annual Luncheon on June 10 at the Midland Hills Country Club in Roseville. In her address, “Singing from the Heart,” she outlined her long struggle with mental illness and its impact on her career as a broadway star and recording artist. She also sang two personal anthems, including “I’m Changing,” from the Broadway musical Dreamgirls.
People Incorporated client Debra Powe also spoke about her struggle with chemical dependency and depression and how the staff at People Incorporated’s Maghakian Place helped her to manage her mental illness and create a new future. People Incorporated launched a new fundraising initiative, the Park Avenue campaign, to raise funds for a new Chemical Dependency/Mental Illness program in Minneapolis that will serve all of the Twin Cities. The campaign aims to raise $2 million in start-up funds by December 31, 2010, with the goal of opening the program in early 2011. Over $1.1 has already been raised. To donate, see the Park Avenue button on the home page.
